For Windows 11 users, deskband will not work with new taskbar. Luckily there is a way to get back taskbar from Windows 10 (and many other useful options) with ExplorerPatcher program (free and open-source). It is available here and an example guide here.
After that your Windows 11 can look like this:

On the latest version of Windows 10, the deskband appears pretty much in the middle of the taskbar, and if I switch to Floating Window mode, I can see that's because there's a lot of empty space on the right side of it. Is there any way to get rid of that/change the size or position of the deskband in Docked mode, so that it's actually docked in the right-hand corner of the taskbar?.

Reserved space is for peakmeter which I forgot to turn on by default, so, right-click deskband, select settings, go to peakmeter section, then visibility and switch it to "Yes"

What you called the "Selected playlist clashes with the top bar in some cases"
I didnt manage to find the source of the issue (hopefully yet) but i was able to reproduce.
Okay, good to know.
Found it, i'll post a fix later today

Thanks for the latest update, @etip!
The search itself is working very well.
But I'm personally finding that backspace still doesn't work?
Also, the view for me doesn't successfully scroll to the selected playlist - it seems to mostly jump right to the bottom of my panel.
Anything I can do test/demo this? I can take a peek at the code in a few days but not right now.

yes the jump is funky. i'll investigate.
Can you describe the backspace ? can't you edit the search text with (it deletes the previous char) or it doesnt search when you hit the backspace button ?

Please disregard my prior comment on -0 vs. -1 as my own misinterpretation of the file ratio.

If there were any trends noticed it might have been files processed with LossyWAV (and the differences were very tiny and probably a byproduct of using -b 512).

Perhaps you could have mentioned earbuds in the first place!  They're a whole 'nother matter!!  Being connected by Bluetooth, that represents another link in the digital chain which imposes its own digital limit.  When it comes to reproduction, I can't find (after a brief google) a specification for wf-1000xm4 sound pressure level or the resolution of the DAC (only that the Bluetooth link supports 24 bit), even the What HiFi review only states "improved DAC".  I don't know how you could go about finding a louder pair without published specifications.

As earbuds direct energy straight into the ear with very little leakage, it is unlikely they won't be loud enough (unless the user is deaf).  As said above, there will be limiting applied at the phone end to avoid litigation.  That's nothing to do with the music file nor player software, and is an operating system function (the user is invited to accept their own liability to override it).  However, if you haven't already, you should have a look at Sony's Headphones Connect app:

The circular outer surface of each earpiece is a touchpad and, by using the Headphones Connect app, you can customise the functionality of each one. They can control volume and playback or switch between noise-cancelling and ambient sound modes through the usual combination of taps, presses and long holds

I don't know whether that means the earbud button operates directly or sends volume commands to the phone to act in parallel with the phone's volume buttons, but it's worth exploring.
