Which is the best tag Editor for Flac files?

HI,
I've ripped all my CDs to Flac and used Flac tags (not ID3 tags).
I need to go back and edit quite a few of the tags.
I've just downloaded Abander TagControl 2 as it deals with Flac files. However it only appears to read ID3 tags and not Flac tags and so is useless to me (apart from this though it looks like the best tag editor I have ever come across!).

Does anyone know of a powerful tag editor that will deal with Flac tags?

Thanks for any help.

Case's Tag handles FLAC tags fine.  If you would rather use a GUI than a command line app, there is a good front end for it by Speek here.

Any good FLAC tag editors for Linux? Especially interested in commandline editors since my A/V server (Debian "Woody") doesn't have xwindows installed (keeps overhead low.)

Try metaflac for command line editing of flac tags.  It would be a fairly simple .sh script to let you edit the tags in your favorite $EDITOR.
I am *expanding!*  It is so much *squishy* to *smell* you!  *Campers* are the best!  I have *anticipation* and then what?  Better parties in *the middle* for sure.

Perfect! Thanks.

At first I was a bit mystified since I don't seem to have a man page for metaflac on my system. I tried metaflac --help and the only options it listed were -l and -v. Not too helpful. Then I found a man page somewhere and it seems like it will be very helpful (no time to try it out at the moment). If I do have an early version (I have 1.0.2) that just lists metadata, I'm sure I can download and install the latest.

please correct me if i'm mistaken :

- flac file is usually encapsulated within ogg-container
- this container can handle vorbis tag
- flac also support flac-tag

> this make 2 solution for tagging, metaflac affect which kind of tag (i suppose flac one, but...)

using metaflac --import-cuesheet-from=foo.cue foo.flac, this add ability to switch between tracks in a whole-album flac file.
also a table to seek within tracks is added. nice

but :

- how to include track titles (and commentary eventually) into the flac file ? i mean without keeping the cue around. it seems that metaflac only imports track lenght..
- would this info be stored also in flac tag ?
- which tag editor to use in this case ? (under linux, btw...)
- does a linux player allow the same "effect" for whole-album file as foobar ? (displaying tracks, in fact) i currently use muine (so gstreamer) and it seems to seek nicely but doesnt read embedded cue file...

thanks,

no, usually native FLAC is used.  if it ends in .flac it should be native FLAC, if it ends in .ogg it should be Ogg FLAC.

vorbis tags and FLAC tags are the same thing.  tags are not part of the container layer, which is why you can't use vcedit to edit Ogg FLAC tags.

metaflac currently only works with native FLAC.

The best and easiest flac tagger i've used is Tagger.  It uses Tag for flac tagging and also supports ogg and ID3V1 and a few others.

Well i think probably the best taggers have been mentioned apart from tag&rename which is a good tagger but not free

I personaly use foobar to tag almost everything, as it seems to read all tags and remove old tags when renamed with the new tags really well.

Both windows programs
