HA logo rip-off?

Is it just me who think that Wikiquote's logo is too similar to HA logo? It's almost like half of HA logo. Of course it can be purely coincident. Any idea?

Because nobody's ever used stylised sound waves in a logo before...?

Surprisingly similar

However, Wikimedia's logo uses PNG transparency, while HA's logo has a solid white background.

Plus the colors are not the same...

-- light blue color --
HA: RGB 101/153/204
Wikiquote: RGB 111/160/208

-- dark blue color --
HA: RGB 49/78/105
Wikiquote: RGB 0/59/111

It's pretty close though :-)

Maybe we should accuse lucpes of stealing?  Nah, this 'problem' is not serious. There's no way someone is going to confuse Wikiquote with HydrogenAudio.

These sound waves seem to be very common in logos. Another well known example is this:

I believe the Mozilla foundation was the one who came up with this one. Now HA, Wikiquotes and Mozilla have something in common. Wavy logos.

What if lucpes is the same person as Neolux? I know that's unlikely, but I think allegations should not be made lightly.

I was being sarcastic. I hoped the  smiley would show that.

I think they are different person. Neolux is based in Melbourne, Australia, while lucpes is from Romania. (I feel like a stalker by doing this  )

But, none of the logo is copyrighted, right? If this is the case, than there will be no serious problem. I was just surprised when I went to Wikiquote, I thought I clicked on HA Wiki page  However HA Logo looks better IMO.

So it's protected under copyright. <sarcasm>I'm really scared now!</sarcasm> Copyright extends protection for an image in its entirety. Supposing HA really did rip them off, since the logos aren't identical, they would have no claim to copyright infringement. It is trademark infringement that is the worrisome issue. However, US courts have traditionally determined that trademark infringement exists only if someone could reasonably confuse the two. (Which is why Apple® computers were OK in Britain, but Apple® music was confused with Apple® Corps.) Since even the most dim-witted of people would not confuse HA with Wikiquote, there's no case for trademark infringement.

Just wondering, what's the meaning of the HA logo anyway?

Edit: Never mind. I read the lucpes thread mentioned above. Now I know. This info should be in wiki! *scurries to edit wiki*
