Saving and opening m3u playlist files with foobar2000.

Dear friends, I am relatively new with foobar2000 and have a number of problems.

Let's say I want to open a playlist (m3u) file from the Directory where my playlist files are stored at. When I try to open it with foobar, it doesn't open the relative playlist, but it adds the contents of the m3u to the playlist I played last before opening that m3u, thus deleting that playlist's contents. Of course I can always ctrl-z and bring them back, but I wonder why does that have to happen?

But why should you ever try to open a playlist file that way, instead of doing it straight through playlist manager, you may ask. This brings us to another problem I am facing. I know that playlists are automatically saved in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\foobar2000\playlists. However, they are not saved with the names I give them, but in a numerical order. Moreover they are fpl files, while I'd prefer m3u. I read somewhere that there is now the option "save all playlists" somewhere in foobar. I cannot find it for some reason, except if I activate "playlist tabs" and right click on them, but I do not want to have my playlists in the form of tabs, I prefer using the playlist manager.

So my questions are:

1)Whether I can open a playlist file with foobar without deleting the contents of the previous playlist I played.
2)Whether I can somehow make foobar 2000 automatically (or even manually) save all my playlists in m3u form, with the names I want them to have, and in the directory I want.

I hope I've managed to express my questions clearly enough, and hopefully somebody will be able to help me with this.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thank you very much lvqcl, that was really helpful!

But I still wonder why, when I try to open an m3u file, instead of opening the relative playlist, foobar just opens the last playlist that I played and adds the m3u's contents to it. Any help with that issue would be greatly appreciated.

file>load playlist.

or if you have playlist tabs or a playlist manager panel active in your layout, drag/drop the file into an empty space on them.

I have a question directly related to Saving and Opening Playlists... so I will add it here in case someone cant help.

I "Save All Playlists..." all the time to my central RAID. And I "Load Playlist" (then Select All my .FPL (or .M3U) files) and load them back constantly to my various foobar instances on various machines for centralized playlists consistency.

Question is: Why are the playlists loaded back in seemingly random order ? Why can't I order the playlists by Name in the UI ?

I can see:  [Playlist Name | Iems | Total Size] but I cannot order my playlists using any of these column headers.

Note that the function "Add to existing playlist" DOES take into account the alphabetic order. My Foobar version is 1.1
