JVC SP-93 speakers -- does anyone know anything about them?

I have a guy on Craigslist that wants to sell me his pair of JVC SP-93 speakers for $50. However, they seem to be around 20 years old and I'm having a hard time finding much information about them. Here is a Youtube video showing them, and this website shows someone in France selling similar speakers for 60 €,  with the following description (translated from the French, but I'm very rusty):

Real living room floor-standing speakers for a music lover
The sound is exceptional, not like mini speakers
Standard connectors for rapid setup + and -
      100 W RMS power
      3-way bass reflex (?)
      Dimensions 35x32x93 cm
      Removable black grill

Anyway, I'm trying to see anybody knows anything about these or any related speakers so I know whether these are worth buying. I'm a grad student, so I don't have a bunch of money to spend, but I don't want to purchase junk. In addition, I'd also like to get your opinions on whether this size speaker is a good fit for a small apartment. Thank you for your help!

Well, JVC ain't/wasn't exactly known for their speakers, and looking at that picture, I'd say you've got a fine example of an 80's "boom box":  big ported enclosure with a 10"(?) woofer, so pretty much guaranteed to get a large quantity of bass (quality may be something else entirely...), and good luck on anything approaching accurate midrange and treble with those drivers (~3" cone tweeter!) and the minimal-to-non-existant crossover (tweeter probably has a single cap for high pass, midrange and woofer may very well be running full-range).

In short, if you just want booming bass, you'll probably like them.  In a small apartment, you'd get *really* booming bass, especially if you place them up against a wall...I would not call those things "neighbor friendly".

If you want anything else, I'd keep looking, although at $50, your choices are going to be rather limited.
"Not sure what the question is, but the answer is probably no."

I don't know anything about those speakers, but for $50 it's probably a good risk.  That's assuming no blown drivers or anything like that.  If I needed a pair of speakers, I'd buy 'em!

Are you going to pick them up in person, so you can listen to them first?    It's always a risk to buy speakers without listening first, so you have to decide for yourself if the potential reward is worth the potential loss.

You are not going to find anything like that new for $50 or $100.  (I think it's kind of hard to find anything like that new...  With surround sound, smaller speakers with a separate subwoofer have become the "new style".)

Speakers can last and work-well for a very-long time.  (And, other than the idea of a separate subwoofer, speakers haven't changed that much over the years, so you're not buying outdated technology.)

How much extra room do you have?    ...I'm assuming you are actually talking about sound/loudness...    Probably overkill, unless you really hate your neighbours!

Well, I don't particularly need them. I'm just looking for a good set of speakers to replace the crappy 2.1 computer speakers that I have, for listening to music and watching movies and stuff on my TV. I'm willing to wait though. So perhaps these speakers aren't what I should be going for, huh?
