Flstudio vs Reaper?

I tried to host Halion3 (32 or 64) with Finale2011, but apparently the program only hosts Kontakt. I'm thinking of getting either FLstudio or Reaper for a DAW. Which one is better? The problem with reaper is that it is not as mature in the MIDI area, and it doesn't have a lifetime upgrade guarantee like FLstudio does.

Fl Studio for creative work.  Reaper for engineering, editing, mastering.

I compose everything in Reaper too.  i'd say get reaper, since its cheaper and if you know how to work it, can do everything you'd ever need

What is the talk about Reaper being weak in MIDI control?

I don't do any recording, I just need a DAW that can let Halion3 display all of its potential. All of my stuff are orchestral/classical libraries, no synths or any techno stuff. The libraries I have are made for kontakt2/Halion1, they don't need advanced software/functions to use. In fact if Finale2011 could host Halion like it can for kontakt, I wouldn't need a DAW at all.

The thing about reaper is that it has a unprofessional reputation among the pros, who continue using Cubase and even Logic. And I don't really know how to use Reaper, looks too counterintuitive.

Which DAW is the best for my needs?

Mixcraft (here) has a reputation for being easy to use and is quite cheap

I was recommended Cubase6 elements. Is that a good midi sequencer?

Ok, can someone just tell me which is the leanest DAW that is designed for hosting and sequencing only? (as little of recording/audio editing as possible)

For free you might look into DarkWave Studio

I've used all the following - list from (IMO) easiest to get going to more complicated DAWs.

Easier to setup & use:
... Ableton Live / FL Studio / Reaper

More complicated, heavier system requirements, and more robust in features:
... Acid / Cubase / Pro Tools / Reason / Sonar

I would suggest contacting support to determine if any or all will host your particular product. I'm not sure exactly what your goal is, maybe to simply play back your samples thru a MIDI KB, jam along to tunes, and no multi track recording.

It may also help by being specific about what you want / need rather than saying "I don't need this", or explaining what leanest means - lean to me on XP SP3 x86 1.5 Ghz CPU 1GB RAM is not the same as lean for 7 SP1 x64 8GB RAM with a multi core processor.

Here's a pretty long list of MIDI editors and sequencers

By "lean" I mean not coming with too many recording/mixing/hardware support features, not about system requirements. I don't use a MIDI keyboard, I just need a sequencer that has enough features (reverb etc...) that can host Halion.

Nvermind I already bought FLstudio today. It seems that all of the expensive features in the FULL cubase 6 like Zplane's elastique are already included in FLstudio.

I can't figure out the difference between all these synths. Imageline alone sells over 10 different ones, plus more than 10 cheap ones bundled with FL studio. According to my knowledge, you can create your own soundfonts so why do you need so many synths? Like you can create a soundfont for violin and load it into a rap music synth software and it will sound the same as when used in any other host?
