Creative SB X-Fi "Audio Creating Mode" with Center Speaker?

Hello!

I have a Creative SB X-Fi audio card and a Logitech X-540 5.1 Set connected to it (Windows 7).
(Bad bad but I can't afford more at the moment.)

I listen my mp3 with winamp, I read that I can have the best audio experience with Audio Creation Mode and "Bit Matched On".

I tried it and it sound really good, better than Entertaing Mode.

But there is no music coming from the center speaker. I really like when there is also sound coming from the center speaker.

Is there any possibility to enable the center speaker?
I use the standard directsound output plugin.

Thanks for any help!

This is just a guess, but "Bit Matched On" might be sending the exact-original-unaltered left-channel bits/bytes to the left speaker, and the exact-original-unaltered right-channel bits/bytes to the right speaker....  And the original "nothing" to the center.  (I'm assuming the rear channel speakers are silent also?)

There are probably other modes or ways to adjust the Entertainment Mode.  Maybe you can find something you like.

CMSS-3D Surround is what you want, but I'd imagine bit-matched playing goes right out the door when it's enabled.

I think you're confusing accurate sound reproduction with how "enjoyable" it sounds. The former is an objective measurement, the latter is subjective. Stereo audio sources have left and right channels only, so accurate reproduction can contain those 2 channels only (subwoofer channels excluded, because those are omnidirectional). To get audio on other channels (center, surround left & right, etc.), you need to upmix the audio. This may produce a more enjoyable sound, but the reproduction is no longer accurate.

Personally I prefer the sound of upmixed audio myself, so I'm familiar with your dilemma.
