ACDSee classic (which is basically the old yet good v. 2,43) is still my favourite.
Version 4 and 5 are pure bloat IMHO.

There are also some excellent freeware alternatives, such as Irfanview and Slowview.

SlowView unlike its name is very good and totally free as well.

I think the best is ThumbPlus from www.cerious.com.

It has a lot of interesting features... powerfull batch converssion, filters...
Take a look to the features list at the web.

I don't work with ACDSee from long time ago so I don't know how slow is...
hope ThumbPlus will be fast enough for you ;-)

Best regards.

My vote (for what it's worth) goes to IrfanView too.  I've been using it as a replacement to ACDSee for about 8 months now and I am not desapointed.

According to IrfanView's site, the program can also open Real Audio files...anyone checked if it does that even if you haven't Real Player installed (although I doubt)?

Slow View seems to be very good.

BTW, how to disable the viewing of audio and files from ACDSee? With Slow View I can disable this feature but with ACDSee no.

irfan is fast and does work, but has somehow borken generation of html/thumbs..., (wrong thumbs will show for wrong pictures), also the gui is extremly ugly under xp,
i would need one with 'export to html/thumbs, before convert all originals that arent yet to jpegs' option with the ability to use custom html/css templates for that?
-also the ability to add comments and the option to show original image info with the thumb (before it was jpeg-ed)
(downloading slowview, lmao@ the vorbis plugin  )
----------------------------------------------
edit:

slowview
- cant find any html generation options...
- starts with the ugly pulldown menus which can be turned off luckily
- will start in localized mode (which is so horibly translated i needed to switch to english to find anything first  )
+ high quality thumbs, fast

xnview
- cant find the way to better the thumbnail generation quality in browse window
- low quality filters - no bicubic resize, low quality text keyer...
- quite a bit slower than slowview or irfan (on p3/800)
+ almost decent html/thumb generation (better resizing filter than the one used in its own browser)
out of the box html thumbs example: http://smokeamiga.virtualave.net/xnview/page.html

slowview&xnview
- cant find the way to see mask only in 32bit images
+ bit less ugly than irfan under xp

edit2: deleted eps bs.

edit3: is there a way to increase the number of formats that winxp will show in thumbnail mode?

602 Photo, part of freeware Office suite,602 Pro PC Suite .
Its has all basic editing functions,  supports Twain devices(cameras & scanners) and converts between all popular image formats.
I recommend it.

You need real player.

Susie anyone?

(the site is in Jap, but the interface is in english)

I use it for some weird formats that you can't find viewers anywhere else (Like PlayStation's TIM format)

You need to disable the Media plugin.

It's in a Plugin Options screen, somewhere.

Does anyone know of any viewer that has the ability to pre-load the next image while viewing the current one? I enjoy this feature of ACDSee alot. AFAIK IrfanView doesn't do this. Otherwise I think IrfanView is great. The resize/resampling modes are interesting and provide good results.

Does anyone know any viewer other than Windows Picture and Fax viewer and ACDSee 5
that has bicubic interpolation? I've tried IrfanView, SlowView and Ulead Photo Explorer
and they all pretty much sucked... Bicubic interpolation is a essential for smooth non-pixely
zoom-ins IMHO...

Not exactly what you are looking for (sine you need a viewer in the style of ACDSee), but you might also find this useful one way or another.
