Unable to playback any music (error 0x80004005)

Hi, so I have been using foobar2000 on this machine for over a year with no problems (been using it a lot longer on other machines).  But, I recently upgraded to 1.0.1 from 0.9.x and have not gotten any music to play since.  Every time I try to play a song I get a dialog box saying "Unrecoverable playback error: Unspecified error  (0x80004005)".  I've tried .mp3, .ogg, and .wav and none of them will play.

I tried removing foobar2000, deleting all plug-ins and settings, and reinstalling but it still didn't work.

Here are my system specs:
* Windows 7 Ultimate x64
* HT Omega Striker 7.1 sound card using 2 channel line out via 3.5mm jack (normally it's S/PDIF, but I don't have my 5.1 speakers at the moment)
* Windows & the sound card are set to 2 channel stereo
* Output device is set correctly in Windows Sound and foobar2000

Below are my modules:
Code: [Select]
Core (2010-03-06 05:44:16)
    foobar2000 core 1.0.1
foo_albumlist.dll (2010-03-06 05:42:18)

Any help with this would be great, thanks!

The error code is a generic failure reported by DirectSound.

So, something is failing somewhere with windows. Where, exactly, I couldn't tell you. It possibly has something to do with the fact that foobar2000 now does 32-bit floating point output on systems that support it (Vista and later), and perhaps your soundcard/drivers have problems with that somehow.

Are you running the newest drivers for your soundcard?

Yet another sound card with fake EAX capabilities, probably hooks into DirectSound on Vista and newer. Only this one doesn't appear to support 32-bit integer samples either.

Good call.  I disabled Xear3D EX (their EAX 1 & 2 compatible interface) in the sound driver and now it works.  Thanks for the help!

Can you enable the Xear3D EX again and post what Console reports about the error. It should be possible to extend the Asus Xonar workaround to handle your situation too.

Here's the output I get from the Console with Xear3D EX enabled:
Code: [Select]
Startup time : 0:00.211178
Opening track for playback: "C:\Music\Led Zeppelin\Houses of the Holy\07 - No Quarter.ogg"
Broken soundcard driver detected - performance is degraded.
IDirectSoundBuffer::SetVolume failed : Unspecified error   (0x80004005)
Unrecoverable playback error: Unspecified error   (0x80004005)

A workaround that doesn't involve changing driver settings would be great.

starting foobar2000 with admin rights gives no error with the eax enabled thru driver panel.

I get the same error message. I am using M-Audio Revolution 7.1 card. I can play music with Windows Media Player so I guess it is set correctly. In Windows XP I don't have any problems with Foobar, only  in Windows 7 I am getting this message "Unrecoverable playback error: Unspecified error  (0x80004005)". Any help?
