Wasapi exclusive mode

I would like to run audio in exclusive mode on windows Vista and have read that WASAPI is the only way to do this but it does not allow for resampling from 44.1 to 96 as is my preferred way to deliver audio to my dac. Is this correct and what are my options?

I am pretty sure I am in shared mode as I can hear other window sounds being processed while playing audio.

Currently running foobar2000 v0.9.6.8 in Vista Ultimate, default resampler loaded (PPHS).

I  just want to try and get Vista audio configured optimally. Foobar is currently running very stable but I am sure it is not optimized and this appears to be a good place to ask these types of questions.

Thanks…first post.

If your sound card/audio device is compatible, you should be able to select WASAPI-exclusive from foobar as output (need to download the wasapi plugin) and it will put out 96 kHz or whatever you set foobar's resampler to.

Are you using HDMI, by the way? If so, which card?

Using a modded USB Tascam US-144 clocked by a Pacecar2 >spdif to Benchmark DAC >sennheiser hd580.

Where does one find wasapi plugins?

Thanks. It worked. No more windows sounds!

I was not sure that plugin would work as I had read the following on another site, but I think he meant only in shared mode:

" The Missing Feature: Now I have been creating a set of .NET wrappers for WASAPI as part of my NAudio open source audio library. After the pain of writing the mountains of COM interop required to get .NET talking to WASAPI, I hit a brick wall. WASAPI does not offer sample rate conversion. In other words, to use shared mode, you must either hope that the Vista machine's audio engine is set to the exact sample rate of your audio, or you must write your own sample rate converter. And sample rate conversion is by no means trivial. Especially if your criteria are that it must not degrade the audio quality and it must be as fast as possible."  http://mark-dot-net.blogspot.com/2008/06/w...ith-wasapi.html
