ID3v2.3 and Serato GEOB tags = bad

Hi,

this is my first post here. I swear I've used the search function

Here's my problem. I'm using foobar2000 with the discogs plugin to tag my files. I also use mp3tag to embed cover pictures.
I then play my files with Serato Scratch Live. Serato analyzes the files and stores various information (overview, BPM, cue points...) inside the files as GEOB tags.

As Serato handles v2.4 tags very badly, I've recently forced foo to use v2.3.

The problem is, foobar destroys the GEOB tags created by Serato when it write to a file!
I had foobar do a tag copy (discogs label to standard publisher tag) on all of my files... It took me days to have Serato reanalyze my files after that

Now I've got paranoid as hell. I've write-protected all my files. For my new files, I have to tag them perfectly before having them analyzed by Serato. I know someday this problem will put me in trouble again

So is it a bug? Is it normal (e.g. because GEOB tags don't exist in v2.3)? Or have I done something wrong?

Thank you!!

I hate doing that but... UP!

Can someone either:
- confirm there's a bug somewhere?
- explain what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you!

To achieve maximum compatibility with software and hardware players, the ID3v2 compatibility mode removes all but a small number of "known good" tag fields.

Ah, I see. So it's not a bug and I'm not completely stupid ;-)

Thanks for clarifying.

I just have to be ultra careful and everything will be fine.

I suggest you let foobar write ID3V2.4 (ie not enable compat mode), and use mp3tag instead to rewrite the 2.4 tag as 2.3 and see what happens with Serato. That's what I do with some other DJ software not fully compatible with ID3V2.4.

Good idea.
As anyway I can't safely use foobar for 2.3 tags, you're right, I'd better go back to 2.4
And I always finish tagging my files with mp3tag which will convert to 2.3...

Thanks for the tip!
