AMD processor driver

(As available for download here.)

Why would one need a driver for a CPU? My Athlon 64 FX-62 worked fine before I installed the drivers, but I haven't done any before-and-after benchmarks or anything.

The readme seems to indicate that these drivers incorporate features of their Cool n' Quiet software, which dynamically underclocks the CPU when it isn't under load. Yet Cool n' Quiet is still listed as a separate download on their site?

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the purpose of this driver is?

It is indeed the driver to make Cool'n'Quiet work properly under Windows XP and 2003 (but it also has to be enabled in the BIOS).

If you look closely, you'll see that the driver below is for Windows ME and 2000.
