Audiophile M-limitations interface with Pioneer PDR-509

My home recording system is:
Korg X5D
2 basic microphones
2 Envoice Mind Print preamps [analogue]
Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer [analogue]
MAC G5 with Logic Pro
Auidiophile M=Audio USB Audio and Midi Interface w/ S/PDIF
Pioneer PDR-509 CR recorder with interface for Analogue, Coax and Optic
Alesis RA=100 with Monitor One speakers

My question relates to trying to overcome latency issues not completely solvable through the Logic software.
I understand that the more one asks of an M-Audio unit the greater the potential for latency.  Thus I decided to try Analogue in
 and digital out [post]
I purchased a 75 OHM coax cable to return the digital signal directly from the M-Audio [post Logic processing] to the CD recorder.  The Pioneer unit recognises the 44k signal from the M-Audio unit but does not pick up the processed signal.  The signal is good listening through the headphne jack of the M-Audio but it does not talk to the PDR.  Any thoughts?  Does the M=Audio Digital only work as an in/out pair? [I am using out only]

I cannot afford to go fully digital at this stage so a solution within existing components would be helpful.
I am also posting this on the Logic forum.

Thanks in advance

Is it that you are attempting to so some real time processing on an analogue input signal in a program called Logic, and you want the result of that processing to go out on the S/PDIF line of the soundcard?

If that is the case, the program Logic must be able to provide real time monitoring of its operation. Some recording programs can, some can’t. If it can, you must assign the program output to the card’s  S/PDIF output in the program’s setting/preference section. The Patchbay/Router setting in the Delta Control panel must have H/W Out S/PDIF assigned to WaveOut S/PDIF.

It may be easier and more efficient to record on the computer and output to the other device post-recording.
