You'll need to be much more specific in the information you have provided.

I run a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4, ie., a similar board, an e6700 clocked to 3.2GHz, 2GB OCZ DDR2 @ 1:1, an ATi Radeon X1900XT 512MB and an M-Audio 2496, all with latest BIOS/drivers, etc with XP SP2 and I have no problem of any description. So why do you think it must be the 2496?

well.. i have that motherboard Asus P5k SE, Intel core 2 duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHz, 2 GB OCZ DDR2 @ 800 MHz, Asus ATI x1050 @ 256 video card, audiophile 2496 and a midi keyboard m-audio oxygen 49. without 2496's driver, my sistem looks to be fine...

When does it shut down? Was it running fine before you installed the M-Audio? These are all things we need to know.

Did you turn off the onboard sound?

nope, i didn't turned off the onboard soundcard, because i need that too for external mixer  the system is 1 week old and i didn't test without 2496, just without it's drivers. the system reboots when i listen music or work with orion/reason and i'm sure that's because of the 2496

Well, there's a good chance it's conflicting with your onboard sound. That's a common malady.

Does the computer reboot when you play games as well?

5 min ago, i've got a bluescreen error:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA..."

After restart, found new hardware.. guess what ? m-audio delta audiophile :| but, 2496 was already installed...

i don't play games  i use this computer for music production. i'll try now to disable onboard soundcard, maybe i'll have some luck

no changes without onboard soundcard... after a few tests for CPU, RAM memory, HDD and video card, i've decided to remove the 2496 and install a new fresh copy of windows xp w/ sp2. now i'm running without any problems, so audiophile is definitely the sick part of my computer ! i'm wondering if it's a physical problem with this audiophile, or it's just a software one (drivers and stuff)... what should i do next ? thanks

Since the Audiophile 2496 is a very widely used soundcard, and since most of those installations almost certainly use WinXP, I would guess that either your card is faulty or there is some screwy incompatibality with some other part of your hardware or drivers.

Video drivers have produced many audio card conflicts at various times in the past. You might try the plain vanilla OS VGA driver to see what happens. Sometimes solutions awaited video card manufacturer driver updates, sometimes the fix was to go back to a earlier, better (at least better from an audio viewpoint) version of the video driver.

Sometimes the latest MB chipset driver isn’t the best choice.

Try plugging the board into another computer. This way you'll determine if it's faulty or not. That other comp may be old: AP2496 has a Win98 driver.

I have run a 2496 in a variety of Intel and AMD based systems without any issues at all, even with the on-board sound also enabled. It sounds to me very much as though it's the card that's faulty, but you should certainly try it in another system to check this.

Just another thought! You don't say which variety of OCZ memory you have, but unless it's the 'value' stuff, almost all OCZ requires more than the default volts to be stable. Usually at least 1.9 volts, maybe more, and it's normally warranted up to 2.2 volts.

problem solved ... but i still don't know where was the problem. now i have the original driver of the audiophile... maybe the latest driver is faulty or maybe because of the video card driver (now i have the latest video driver) or the PCI... (btw i'm running also with the onboard soundcard )

thanks again for the help m8s
