Portable EAC?

I've heard you can put Foobar2000 on a USB Flash Drive, but what about EAC? I read once that it doesn't use the registry so could you just install it to a folder on a Flash Drive and run it? If so, would there be any performance loss when encoding and ripping?

EAC writes a registry key where it stores settings, etc., located in:
HKCU\Software\AWSoftware

So if you wanted to make it portable you'd have to make a way to get rid of that registry key after using it such as:
Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

; Removes Exact Audio Copy settings from the Registry

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AWSoftware]

I had tried to make a CDex portable, but it was so damned slow I gave up, although it did work.

if i'm not mistaken-  foobar has a very nice/robust ripper that, if foobar is portable, so is it's ripper...

i've read posts about which is better (foobar ripper vs EAC) but never heard anyone's definiative conclusion...

so if anyone wants to throw down a brief $0.02 (i don't want this to become a foobar vs eac thread)...

Doesn't seem like you meant to have an EAC vs FB2K, you're just giving an alternative, and that alternative happens to already be portable!

Making EAC portable really shouldn't be difficult, so long as one remembers to remove that registry key on the system they're using. It could be automatically removed via a .reg file and a batch file, two mouse clicks and all the EAC registry data is removed - although it's ashame that EAC doesn't use an .ini file instead.

Oh yeah one would also have to configure EAC for the drives used; so having a user profile saved to load from would be o.k., but the ripping drives would have to be configured to know their capabilities.

I prefer to use EAC because of the secure ripping features. However, when I go anywhere, I've got only my laptop, and EAC cannot utilize my drive's capabilities. EAC will take about 20-30 minutes to rip a CD. FB2K can max out maximize performance of the drive and rip that same CD in 7 minutes.

Will I convert to FB2K for ripping since it outperforms on my laptop? No. EAC may match FB2K on my desktop, but I prefer<sp-edit> accurate ripping.
OP can't edit initial post when a solution is determined  :'-(

I also prefer Exact copies but personally i've found that the only thing stopping me from using foobar's ripper is that it doesn't output a log so I don't know if there IS an error in the rip or not.

Even if the two programs rip identically (I have gotten bit-for-bit identical copies with both before) I find that no log generation is a serious downfall for fooby.

Other than the above, are there any genuinely portable rippers (ie, ones that don't need an ASPI layer?)
