Apparently there's a lot of download managers for Windows out there.

Which one is your favorite?

(Note: not all managers are included here. I just choose those that 'seemed' familiar to me. Feel free to post what you use if it's not in the list.)

Download Mage is mine, it's commercial and not freeware. It however seems to be dead since the last version released was in 2002.

Funny that Go!zilla doesn't show up on the list, is one of the old ones, along with getright. Unless of course it changed its name.

Wackget, which just a front end for wget.

Note:  I rarely use download managers unless there's a lot of files I want to download at around the same time.

right now since i'm using Opera, i use its built-in download manager which gets the job done(it downloads...). but when i used IE and Firefox and when i didn't know about Opera, I used Free Download Manager. simply because it was the only one which didn't piss me off.

I have previously used GetRight and FlashGet (with S&D fix) but tend to just use DownThemAll now in Firefox, as it's integrated.

IIRC FlashGet had some "spyware" in it.  Spybot S&D replaced the DLL with a dummy so FlashGet was happy but wasn't spying.

More votes for Wackget or just plain wget. I use it in the occasional cases where I need a queued dl of many files -- generally stuff from archive.org -- or sometimes a slow site when I don't want to leave firefox open for many hours.

IMHO most "download managers" suck. Downthemall is ok if you have a need for auto-grabbing everything from a specific page. But most of them are relics of the dialup era, and pretty worthless these days. (However if you're still on dialup, a tool with resume ability is good, but I would stick with wackget. Simple and no crapware worries.)

Yeah on dialup finding a good dl manager without any adware/spyware is essential for getting most updates, however Windows Updates are enough of a compelling reason itself to upgrade to broadband. I personally download most stuff right through Firefox.

I however wouldn't call dl managers worthless since there's still some websites that are really slow to download from even on broadband that would otherwise result into a failed download, and the resume capability does come in handy when dealing with such slow and unstable download sources.

Net Transport.  I use the freeware version.  Supports http, ftp, rtsp, mms.  Does downloads and stream captures.  Most of the download managers I've seen are quite similar and none of them would I call perfect.  Net Transport has a steep learning curve (poor or absent docs).  Also, it does not write proper indices for RealAudio stream captures.  I still recommend it, though.

Opera. And since there are decent bandwidths here, no need to resume.
Really, I used a download manager (getright), fivehundred years ago, at 56 k modem times...
For stream captures I use mplayer.

There have been so many d/l managers mentioned here that it is hard to check them all out.  I still use Streambox VCR for capturing RealAudio streams.  It is the only program I know of that will write cannonical indices for the saved file.  With valid indices, I can use the RMeditor to edit the file.  Are there any other programs that can capture a RealAudio stream that can be so edited?  Thank you.

Same here..
I was using flashget for a long time but i switched to netransport before year or two when it came out and im staying with it...Easily best download manager for me
