Nero: nxMyFLA.dll 1.0.0.33 input plugin errors

I do a little multi-track recording using Adobe Audition 2.0 (formerly Cool Edit) and mixdown my tracks to the standard 2-track stereo. I save the mixdown as FLAC to recover some hard drive space. Using foobar2000 (0.9.1) the output FLAC file plays fine, also plays fine using Winamp (5.24). So I try to burn these FLAC files using Nero 7 with the nxMyFLA.dll (1.0.0.33) input plugin (windows xp sp2)...and I've wasted about 5 blank CDs. The first result is that 1) sometimes Nero crashes midway through the burn (no specific percentage, varies greatly) and of course my drive is locked and all I can do is shutdown & start up again to gain control of my burner(s). The 'this program must exit' says it's nxMyFLA.dll that caused the crash). And 2) if the burn did complete, the result is that all you hear is white noise.

I finally figured it out that the problem was that mixdown I created in Audition was @ 32bits, which translates to a 24bits per sample FLAC file. As I said foobar & winamp handled these 24bps flac files fine. Once I changed the mixdown type to 16bit (with dithering...goodbye lossless), Nero burned the whole CD & it played correctly.

So my question is, is my problem 1) with Audition's flac.flt plugin not saving 24bps files correctly or 2) nxMyFlac not being able to handle 24bps FLAC files? Is there a big difference between a 16bit & 24bit FLAC file (aside from the extra byte of data)? I really have no problem with 16bit FLAC files, it's just that I might forget to change the type from 32 to 16...cause when you do the final mixdown, you get that "I'm done" feeling...

Audio CD standard supports only 16bit PCM audio, so there is no "goodbye lossless" at all. If you want to create CDDA, you have to convert your audio to 16bit as it's a mandatory requirement. (Apparently, your version of Nero doesn't support this type of conversion on-the-fly.)

Thankyou for the reply, Egor.

Dithering messes with the original samples to make 'em fit the 16 bit space, so I was under the impression that the bits are not the same anymore...granted, I highly doubt I'd be able to tell the difference, but to me it's not lossless when dithering comes into play. Is it a big deal, not at all. My primary concern was that I might forget to select a 16bit mixdown and burn another CD-coaster.

When you say 'your version of nero doesn't support...', are you saying there are version(s) that do? I was just under the impression that no matter what file format you have (flac,mp3,wav) the input plugin automatically does what it needs to make the audio file compatible with the standard CDDA format...then again if that happened, it's really just the same thing as me mixing down to 16bit before I even run nero...

...so I guess I just learned that you can't rely on the plugin, or even the burning program, cause I would've thought that it'd have some file-checking verification to refuse to read 24bps files. As a matter of fact, just started up nero, added some 24bit FLAC files to the compilation, and hit the 'play' button...and how about that, all you hear is static. So if I would've listened beforehand, I could've saved some CDs, but I still think nero or nxMyFla.dll should refuse to take 24bps files.

I think the file you're using, nxMyFLA.dll, is only suitable for Nero 5 or Nero 6, but does not work with Nero 7. At least, I can't get it to work with it.

In order to listen to and burn 24bit audio, you'll need a sound card that is 24bit as well.  24bit takes almost twice as much disk space as 16bit but 24bits fidelity, voicing, etc. is noticably superior.  Do not bother downloading anything beyond your current soundcards ability.  You'll only end up with white noise and alot of wasted  resources.

I bought Nero7 and gotta say that it sucks sucks F*$*ing sucks.  Its like they charged $100 for a beta.  I wish I could trade it in for a full version of nero6.  Unless you enjoy yelling at, and reformating your HD (7 times in 2 weeks for me..so far)  stay away from zero7.  NERO 7  worthless as boobs on a nun.

...i don't believe you need a 24-bit card to burn at 24-bit. when you burn 24-bit to (DVD or something which supports 24-bit audio), the process should be lossless.
