How to make star symbol?

I'm trying to find a font or some way to make a star symbol appear for my ratings column. I have seen lots of configs that have them, but I haven't got it to work. I am using Tahoma font and have tried the following string to, which didn't work

$char(2605)

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Run charmap.exe, chose the font Arial Unicode MS, search for the symbols, and copy and paste them into foobar.

★ = U+2605
☆ = U+2606
✩ = U+2729

You should be able to keep Tahoma as your font in foobar2000, Windows automatically switches to Arial Unicode MS for those characters.

It should be noted that the numbers reported in Character Mapper are hexadecimal, and need to be converted to decimal for $char(). Windows Calculator should be sufficient for that, if you switch into Scientific view and use the F5/F6 keys to switch between hex and decimal.

I still can't get the star symbol to display  It just shows up as a small square if I cut and paste it from charmap.exe to foobar. I also tried using the decimal number to display it.

Ex $char(9733)

But it just comes up with squares.

Use Arial Unicode MS as the main font, then.

Yes, using a font which supports the characters you want is also a requirement. To my knowledge, there are no user interfaces which support mixing multiple fonts through automatic font mapping, which in itself is a complicated procedure.

I got the stars and other symbols to display using Arial Console Unicode font, but another weird problem came up. It seems to rotate symbols counter-clockwise 90 degrees when I insert a symbol...
