Question about .fla files

Anybody know what can decode these files? Ive tried Flac frontend but it doesnt recognize the file. Any help would be appreciated

Assuming it's a valid FLAC file, try changing the extension to .flac . I don't know why .fla is used as an extension; the days of 8.3 filenames are over.

Some programs don't like less-used extensions. I know the MKVextract frontend doesn't display .MKA files, even though the only difference between .MKA and .MKV is the extension. But that's fairly off-topic.

  This could because they were saved via Cool Edit Pro/Audition with the flac filter -- due to limitations in the plug-in format, CEP can only deal with 3 character extention names.

I did change the extension to .flac and that worked. I feel kind of stupid now. But thanks to both of you for the info

Yeah. I have that filter and it really bugs me that it saves to .fla . If I manually give it a .flac extension it will helpfully rename the file .flac.fla 

But really, I can't see why there is anything that can only deal with 3 character extensions. It's just annoying.

what's worse with that is that .fla is already taken!

i double click a flac file, and lo and behold, Flash opens up and kindly informs me that i don't have a valid Flash file... 

why don't adobe do something good with cool edit?  oh, i forgot.  adobe don't fix ANYTHING (and if they ever do, they release it for winXP only.  hooray for anticompetitive behaviour).

...but i digress.

How to change file associations in:

or the even easier version:
Right Click on a .fla file. Choose Open With, then Choose Program, and choose the program. Of course, click Always use the selected program to open this type of file.

And you could always use some sort of utility to rename .fla files to .flac files.

hehe.  i knew that already.

only problem is, i don't want my flash files opening in foobar, do i?
