OggDropXPd - use of Vorbisgain?

Newbie-question here.
To me it looks like Vorbisgain is featured in OggDropXPd, at least there is a setting under "decoding options".
Just can't make it work... can someone pls. provide a step-by-step guide how to use the Vorbisgain-feature in OggDropXPd?
I expect Vorbisgain to do the same like Mp3Gain, only with ogg-files... am I wrong?
Mp3Gain works fine, and I'd love to have a feature like this for my future ogg-files.
Anyway... I clicked that "radio/title gain"-setting in "decoding options", but the ogg-files still have the same different volumes...
Thx for help!

you are right about vorbisgain, but oggdrop isn't a frontend for it!

... to get all messed up ogg-files?
Doesn't work... and where can I specify the dB I want to reach with Vorbisgain on my ogg-files? What about that MS-Dos-window that pops up and is gone in three seconds?
And what's the purpose of the Vorbisgain-Settings in OggDrop?
*pheeew*... too much of a newbie here, huh?

Go here: http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/speek.htm and pick up 'oggifier' which is a great frontend for oggenc, oggdec and VorbisGain.

Select the VorbisGain tab. The options you want are specified:
Code: [Select]
Usage: vorbisgain [options] input.ogg [...]

OPTIONS:

-a, --album          Run in Audiophile/Album mode.

-g, --album-gain=n   Set the Album gain to the specified value. Implies Album

mode

-c, --clean          Remove any VorbisGain tags. No gains are calculated

-C, --convert        Convert VorbisGain tags from old to new style

-d, --display-only   Display results only. No files are modified

-f, --fast           Don't recalculate tagged files

-h, --help           Print this help text

-q, --quiet          Don't print any output (except errors)

-r, --recursive      Search for files recursivly, each folder as an album

-s, --skip           Skip non-Vorbis or faulty files

-v, --version        Display version number and exit

INPUT FILES:

ReplayGain input files must be Ogg Vorbis I files with

1 or 2 channels and a sample rate of 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz,

 32 kHz, 24 kHz, 22050 Hz, 16 kHz, 12 kHz, 11025 Hz or 8 kHz.

Wildcards (?, *) can be used in the filename.

The '-g, --album-gain=n' option takes a value in +/- dB, the rest is pretty intuitive, I think.

The VorbisGain options in oggdropXPd are for playback/decoding where you can choose to have the tag values used. OggdropXPd only uses the tags, if they are present, it does not create or modify them at all. It will, however, use the old or new style tags.

Thanks Benjamin and John33.
As I don't want to use album-mode, what to do to get the radio/title-mode?

If you want to adjust the volume on  a track basis, you will have to open a DOS Box/Command Prompt and change to the dir/folder in which you have placed VorbisGain.exe.

Then you will need to type something like:
Code: [Select]
F:MYOV-1.0>vorbisgain --album-gain=-3.5 128.ogg

Analyzing files...

Gain   |  Peak  | Scale | New Peak | Track

----------+--------+-------+----------+------

-0.25 dB |  20736 |  0.97 |    20148 | 128.ogg

Setting Album Gain to: -3.50 dB

Writing tags to '128.ogg'

The Track Gain will be written as -0.25dB and the Album Gain as -3.50dB. You will need to do this separately for each track!! I know, it's a real pain! But the manual adjustment was meant to be used on an Album not a Track basis.

Oh-oh... I guess I can't be bothered with that - I would do more harm than good!
Someone pls. make soon a Vorbisgain-Frontend that acts just like Mp3-Gain... including all options.
Thanks!
Tom.

Looks like WinVorbis 1.34 does the trick - at least you can specify if you want to use Vorbisgain in radio/track or audiophile/album mode.
What I am still missing is actually to what volume-level the ogg-files are transfered to when using Vorbisgain/WinVorbis. And where can I change this volume-level (Mp3Gain has 89.0 as default, I use 90.0)? Where are all the volume-change datas (mp3Gain displays them, you need those to change the volume back)?
Btw: In a few hours WinVorbis 1.34 will be replaced by 1.35 (using Vorbis 1.0).
Thanks!
Tom.

Hmm, what's the point of using 90.0dB over 89.0dB? The standard reference level is 89dB, which is what Vorbis uses, what MPC uses, and what MP3Gain uses unless you are silly enough to change it. If you go fiddling with this, you'll only create trouble without any gain - as you just experienced.

Unlike mp3gain, VorbisGain doesn't actually change anything in the Vorbis file, so 'remembering' the old volumes is not needed.

Hmmm... 90 dB is a bit higher volume (still to soft for me compared to the average CD-volume).

I guess I got how Vorbisgain works... it's all about tags - I f you don't like the volume anymore, you clear the tags, right?

Question: to what volume level does Vorbisgain change the initial volume of an ogg-file in radio/track-mode? Is it 89 DB (default setting?) as in in mp3Gain? And, can I change this volume level?
Thanks!

You should leave it at 89 dB. This will guarantee that all formats with ReplayGain information will play at a comparable loudness.

If this is too quiet for you,
a) turn it up with the volume knob (i'm serious  ),
b) decrease the CD volume in the Windows mixer settings (cause you mentioned that CDs are louder), or
c) go to the Winamp plug-in options and turn up the pre-amp.
