HTTP seeking in foobar2000?

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to seek in HTTP-streamed files in fb2k.  (I.e, when listening to a file loaded via HTTP, click on the seekbar and jump to that point in the file.)  This is something you can do in Winamp with MP3 files, and with Ogg Vorbis as well if you use the secret "httpseek2" registry value.  It works very well for me, and it's the main reason I've stuck with Winamp up to this point, since my (primarily Vorbis) music collection sits on a Linux box on my home network and I access it via Apache and NetJuke.  Being able to seek in the file as if it were local is a big plus for me.

However, I'm now contemplating re-ripping all my CD's into FLAC, and it looks like fb2k is the best bet for playing FLAC streamed over HTTP.  HTTP seeking doesn't seem to work, though -- if I click on the seekbar while the file is playing, foobar thinks for a second and then stops playback altogether.  Is there any way to get it to work?

If this capability isn't present at the moment, is there any chance in the future of this functionality getting added to the HTTP reader component?

Currently no  But there are people working on this.

Ooo tell me more about this secret registry hack.  My Plugin for winamp and foobar is sorely missing out on this ability.

It actually sounds like my WombatShare could be useful for you if you run the linux daemon version of it [which doesn't currently exist, although its very close to being writable, I can compile and run WombatShare under linux now, just in the process of 'opening' the source]

Thanks -- good to know that there's hope, then.

It's something that Peter P. mentioned a long time ago on one of the Winamp message boards.  Find the place where the Winamp Vorbis plugin is storing its settings.  On the NT4 box I'm using right now, it's "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Winamp\in_vorbis", but it may vary slightly on 2000/XP.  Under the "in_vorbis" key, add a DWORD value called "httpseek2", with a value of 1.

Then when you're streaming a Vorbis file from an HTTP URL, you should have the Winamp seekbar show up, and you can click/drag it to any point in the file.  (The plugin still has to buffer before it starts playing, so if you're on a slow connection it'll still take a second to start playing -- on a LAN, it's almost instantaneous.)

That's nifty -- probably not something I need myself, since I have everything centralized on one server, but it's a great idea.

Wow top, that works a treat, and yeah same place in 2k/xp

I actually use it in that way on my home server, saves having to setup apache and things, but I'm no fascist I believe in freedom of choice <g>

I don't know.
I think it is a good choice that I keep using v0.8.3 for a while until such a useful component is recompiled.
