How does foobar tag m4a files?

I don't understand how m4a tagging works.  If i retag an m4a file, what componet handles the tagging?  What format do the tags get done in?

Thanks.

If I am not entirely wrong it simply uses the mp4 containers native tagging standard.  I think anything else wouldn't comply with the mp4 standard.

But maybe someone more knowlegable can explain this in a bit more detail.

How does foobar tag m4a files?, Will selecting APEv2/ID3v2 effect this?
How many special notices do I need to put to make people understand that APEv2/ID3/whatever selection affects MP3 only ?
Microsoft Windows: We can't script here, this is bat country.

That's right. foo_mp4 handles the tagging and writes iTunes metadata to the files. Tagging m4a files with APEv2 or ID3v2 would make the file invalid.
