Several RCA/Toslink cables tested ...

Hi folks ...

in addition to my Sounstorm RMAA loopback test, I tried to determine electrical differences between several cables with my TerraTec EWX 2496 which should be good enough to reproduce differences between cables.

Thus far, 8 different cables have been tested (2 Toslink, 6 RCA - still have to test my Oehlbach NF-1 and a lousy 6 m RCA cable) in the price range between 0€ (standard retail connection) up to 150€ (Audioquest Coral) ... each cable comes with a 1600x1200 picture so you can get a somewhat more clear impression.

As expected, the Mid-Class and High-End-Cables do not perform any better (in fact, the Audioquest cable shows higher THD but slightly better channel separation which is inaudible  ) than cheaper or even retail cables (which especially are believed to be inferior) ... by the way ... is anyone interested in buying an Audioquest Coral cable ?  (just thought about selling it to some HiFi n00b like I have been once) ...

You can download the self-extracting rar archive with the gathered test data here ... but be advised that this is a 14 MB file ( I did not downscale any of the pictures or screenshots) ... so this will be an option for high-bandwith users only ...

If you extract the archive and keep the original directory structure, the results should be self-explaining ... have fun !

The Test:

$0.10/m zip cables =? ($0.15/m Monster Cables + $3.50/m advertising cost of why they are better)

The choice is clear
