Howto rip Copy Protected cd in linux?

I just bought a copy of A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step on CD. Only problem is is has some sort of cd protection on it. Whenever I get a new cd, I like to rip it to mp3 so i can play it on my computer, use it in my car mp3 player etc. I tried grip, which uses cdparanoia as its ripping engine, but it shows it all messed up. I was wondering if there was software for linux that can copy "protected" cds.

yup, i got that same cd the other day, and was able to rip it perfectly with the commandline cdparanoia program. i also was successful with the new nickelback album, which is also copy protected.

it's possible that it depends on your drive... i'm using an inexpensive LG 32x burner for all my ripping. cdparanoia is pretty much your only option in linux.. the other rippers like cdda2wav are insecure (ie they don't fix errors) ... try ripping on a friend's computer, using EAC if they're evil Windows users.

good luck!
