Fresh computer install, foobar refuses to scrobble with last.fm

I recently got a new computer and did a full reinstall of Windows. While winamp and windows media player will work with the last.fm scrobbler (both the current and legacy version- I prefer the legacy), foobar refuses to scrobble anything. On the lastfm support forum, I was told to install the foo_scrobble component. While it shows up under components, "Last.fm Scrobbling" won't show up under Tools. The screen for Tools just says "Please select a sub page.", and all I see is "Advanced." There is no "Last.fm Scrobbling" option that I can see under Advanced.

Due to hardware issues with a part I ordered, I had to resort to using a laptop for a time. I installed the legacy scrobbler and was able to scrobble on foobar with no issues. I finally got things running on this computer again, and went ahead and did a fresh reinstall of Last.fm. Made sure to install the foobar plugin. Still won't scrobble. Decided reinstall the foo scrobble plugin again. Same issue as before- shows up under components, nothing under tools.

Why does foobar and foo_scrobble refuse to work with last.fm on this computer?

You have to expand Tools by double clicking on it.

Thanks, that brought up what I was looking for. I went and requested authorization, gave last.fm permission to allow access, and clicked complete authorization. Still nothing. I noticed that on the "Now Playing" page for Last.fm legacy, foobar isn't listed at all:


I went ahead and chose to install the foobar plugin from the File drop down on this. Nothing. Even after saying the installation was successful, foobar won't show up on "Now Playing" and last.fm refuses to scrobble foobar tracks. It's like my computer refuses to install the basic foobar plugin for last.fm.

Bumping this thread in hopes someone else will help me again.

I've been trying on and off in the lastfm support forums to figure out why foobar absolutely refuses to scrobble with last.fm no matter what I do. For reference, I use Windows 10 Professional edition 64-bit with an x64 processor. My laptop used Windows 11. On this PC, I use foobar v2.1.5. The version of fooscrobble I tried is v1.6.0.

Suggestions people have given me:

-Install foobar from the file menu (made no difference)
-Install foobar from the exe in the plugins folder (made no difference)
-Check if I'm using a VPN (I'm not)
-Check if I have WRITE rights and if I'm logged in as admin (I am)
-Check if I installed it foobar portable instead of standard (I didn't, it's standard)

I've used foobar for ages. I've tried using windows media player and winamp, but they're completely garbage in comparison, just completely unintuitive, convoluted hassles. I have reinstalled on many PC's during the time I've been using foobar and I have never, ever had issues like this. I've always been able to just install foobar and last.fm and scrobble from it with no issues, until now. I'd really hate to resort to sticking with them or using other alternatives, but that's what I've had to do in the meantime, because something as simple as "get foobar to scrobble with last.fm" has turned out on this PC to be a seemingly insurmountable task that nobody can figure out.

So you've not listed how you used the preferences page to enter your username and authorise your account? My guess is that you have not done that.

My account was already authorized. I went through that process all over again to see if it would make a difference. It still won't scrobble.

Preferrences > Tools > Last.fm Scrobbleing
Scrobbleing > Enable scrobbleing
「Request authorization」
「Request authorization」 > Browser Start > Last.fm Login  > Username or Email, Password > Login
Connect application > YES, ALLOW ACCESS
Preferences > 「Request authorization」

That is the exact progression I followed when I attempted it last time. I went ahead and did it again, and for good measure, I logged out of my last.fm account. Nothing changed. I did not get the "Connect application > YES, ALLOW ACCESS", but I'm not sure if that would have made any difference.

Are you still logged in?
Please log out and start again from the beginning.
As mentioned above, did you click Preferences > "Request authorization" and then click OK to finish?

In my case -- fb 2.24 on new windows pc -- it was user error.  i requested authentication, got the authenticated page in my browser but was stuck. i'd neglected to click the "confirm authentication" in foobar as the last step. correcting that seemed to fix it.

Oh, and the last thing to click is
Preferences > Last.fm Scrobbleing > "Complete authorization"
