Editing tags in foobar

Hi. I use several portable foobar 2000 implementations, each of them with a dedicated library. Recently I added a new one, with a large library (more than 2000 albums). The tags of each album in the library were previously edited with TagScanner in a consistent way. But in the final result (in foobar) I found some errors. Albums are ordered alphabetically by performer, but in a few cases the name of this performer does not appear, although all is OK in TagScanner. I tried to correct the issue by editing tags within foobar, with no success. Say, I right click the name of the album and choose Properties. In the resulting window both Performer and Album Artist appear void. I fill both of them with the appropriate name and press apply and OK, but the window continues opened. Each time I try to close it I am asked if I want to save the changes, I choose OK but the window refuses to close. The only way to close it is to choose Don't save the changes, and then all returns to the beginning. As a result, I am not able to solve the issue.
Could someone help me, please?

Try this.
Album selection:
Properties > Metadata tab > Tools > Reloadinfo
----
If this doesn't work, delete the tag and reinsert it.
Please back up each album.

Properties > Metadata tab > Tools > Remove tags

Dear Air  KEN.
Thank you. Your first suggestion leaved all unchanged.
You write: "If this doesn't work, delete the tag and reinsert it."
What tag? How?
At present in Properties the field Album artist is empty. In all other albums this field has the name of the artist.

Do you suggest that I install these components? I repeat that I edited all tags with TagScanner previously to charge the library in foobar, and in 99% of cases this worked OK.

Is this your collection of headphones? I am thinking to go live with you...

AFAIK, the console should log an error each time the window refuses to close (ej: Tag update error: Object not found).

When I clic the cross in the upper right corner of the window the console asks me if I want to save the changes. If I accept, after a while saving the changes, when I press again the cross the console asks me again the same question. Again and again. And if I discard the changes the situation returns to the beginning.  That is: I am not able to save the changes and close the window

I discovered that the questioned album is included twice in the library, one of them without problems. The two entries refer to the same folder and files in the hard disk. I want to eliminate the defective entry, but I ignore how to delete it. Could anybody help me?

foobar2000 menu > Edit > Remove duplicates
The above is a function to delete duplicate items, but it is probably impossible.
I didn't ask for foobar2000 version, file type and Tag type.

Move the album from Libry to the desktop.
Run Media Library Scan.

Copy the Album moved to the desktop and back it up.
Delete all TAGs with TagScanner and return them to Media Library.
Run Media Library Scan.

Tried to force a library rescan? Shift and click "Library" and select from there. (It does take some time.)

If that doesn't work: Which version?

Also: You also need to check that the drive letter is the same. If you have earlier had added the same folder on a different drive, and disconnect the drive - then it stays in the library.

Thanks to all fellows who tried to help me.
Comments/questions to several answers:
foobar portable AND the library are in the same external USB HDD, always connected to the PC (Windows 10). foobar's version is 1.6.16.
The library includes more than 2200 albums, whose tags were all processed in the same way with TagScanner 6.1.15. Most audio files are flac, and the library was incorporated to foobar as a whole. Roughly 98% items in the library doesn't have problems, and I was already able to solve some of the issues. One of the unsolved ones is an album that appears twice in the library. Only once in the HDD. In one of these duplicated instances artist's name doesn't appear. I tried to delete the files from within foobar, getting a warning "could not delete 4 out of 4 files". I closed foobar and deleted the folder in the HDD. When I opened again foobar both items continued in the library, but obviously I couldn't play them. Running Edit/Remove dead items I was able to get rid of them, but when I copied again the album in the HDD, previously editing its tags, and added it manually to the library. the library shows again two entries, exactly as before, one of them doesn't showing the artist's name.
I forced a library rescan with no success.

Thank you.

All tag data are included in these items?
I will delete the problematic album from the HDD, repeat the above procedure, rip again the album and edit its tags, to finally incorporate it manually into the library. What do you think?

Please move the album in question to your desktop.
Rebuild Media Library.
Anyway, let's rebuild the Media Library once.
Re-tag the album in question and move it back to the Media Library folder.

Unfortunately foobar2000 v1.6.16 doesn't report detailed errors to console on tagging failures.

If you only edited tags of one file at a time you would get descriptive error message written on the bottom statusbar of the Properties dialog. For example "One file could not be updated: Object not found". foobar2000 v2.x writes proper error info along with the file paths to the console, which is handy for error situations.

I suspect your copied album comes with something extra causing it to appear twice. I assumed cue sheet at first, but cue is filtered out by default and disabling the filtering doesn't cause behavior you are seeing.

For the problem album could you check what Properties dialog shows on the Details tab? I think the first two entries are enough: "File names" and "Folder name". That should tell what you are seeing there. Possibly also "Codec", just in case.

Is this the best way to do that?
1. Remove the whole library from Preferences/Media Library/Remove,
2. Eliminate the problematic album from the HDD
3. Delete profile\index-data, profile\library and profile\playlists-v1.4, as you suggested.
4. Rescan from Preferences/Media Library/Add. Is this what you call rescan? Rescan = rebuild?
5. Copy a new ripping of the album made with EAC to the HDD
6. Manually add this album to the Library with Preferences/Media Library/Add

Thank you.

1. 3. 4. Same

> 2. Eliminate the problematic album from the HDD
Temporarily move to desktop

> 5. Copy a new ripping of the album made with EAC to the HDD
This is the most important thing. Top priority.

Yes, Rescan.

It wouldn't be strange if it was already solved.

Re-ripping? Don't waste your time on that.
If you suspect some really dodgy tags in there, try open the file in Mp3tag and Ctrl-x Ctrl-v. Mp3tag is freeware and you need it anyway.

@Porcus

After registering all 2000 albums to MEdia Library,
Media Library and some files were destroyed.

Remove the album in question and rebuild the Media Library.
The person asking the question also deleted the TAG using TagScanner.
It says that TagScanner also organizes TAGs.

Re-rip the problematic album.

I think that's one way.

Dear friends,

I am wondering if a 2200+ albums collection is too large for foobar. Or for me.

I added this collection to foobar's media library via Preferences/Media library/Add. After a while the collection appears as foobar Media Library, with (fortunately) a few errors. These errors are different. I will try to summarize them. To avoid misunderstandings, I will call Collection to the set of folders (albums) in the HDD, and Media Library (ML) to the set of albums shown by foobar.
1. Some albums appear duplicated in the ML. When I open one of these duplicates, besides the name of each song appears ON AIR, instead of the duration of the song. If I try to play one of these songs, I get a playback error message telling "Unable to open item for playback (object not found)", and I have difficulties to close this error message. Sometimes I had to close foobar with task manager.
2. These albums ARE NOT duplicated in the Collection. How can I safely get rid of these duplicates in the ML?
3. Some album's tags appears changed in the ML. For example Artist name appears in Russian, and each song is qualified ON AIR, and unavailable.
4. Some covers doesn't appear in the ML. Sometimes I was able to add the cover using Right clic/Tagging/Attach pictures, but in some cases this option is grayed. In some other cases right clic/Properties/Artwork says that artwork is unavailable.

I ignore if these are all errors. I will continue trying to get rid of all issues.

Thanks again for your help.

Your album count is not too much. Try to take a break from nuking your database and could you please provide the information I asked earlier for an album (or track) that doesn't work correctly. Your files have something special going on and it would be great to figure out what.
