foobar2000 for tvOS

Hi folks,

I was wondering whether there could be a remote possibility that foobar2000 appears in Apple TV 4K, more specifically, tvOS, from Apple. The reason I was thinking about this is the never ending wait that VLC is taking to implement gapless playback with songs, as well as support for album art and such things, just like the same experience Apple native player delivers with this device. Unfortunately, the device native app is locked into ALAC, MP3, AAC basically, but it can brilliantly execute the mission of displaying album art, honor ReplayGain tags (actually, SoundCheck), and even recognize m3u playlists. As I understand that VLC is also an overall media player, focusing more on video and less than audio, I was wondering about foobar2000.

If that could be done, it would be a glorious thing. Able to play APE, FLAC, Opus and many files, with this device.

Any chances?

Thank you.

Personally, I don't think tvOS users need this (all that you have described - it would be a lot to ask, wouldn't it?). If you fussed a little bit with the Apple TV 4K+ native music player, you will see that it is very simple and the implementation really shines - cover art have these shadows behind and a glow over the cover; the animations are nice. What sucks indeed is the dependency for iTunes to be running on the computer, and iTunes users are being forced slowly to move to Apple Music.

I've made a "study case" in VLC/iOS/tvOS forum, comparing three applications. The Apple native player, VLC "state of art" and another neat but very limited app called File Explorer (plays even APE).

https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=159039&p=524361#p524361

As you can see, VLC can work with a lot of formats, but clearly it is a video oriented app, it's ugly as hell and doesn't please any music enthusiast (call me persnickety :-) ).

The thought of foobar2000 getting to this platform was based into two facts:

- foobar2000 for MacOS and iOS was vaporware prior to 2017. And it happened.
- Seeing foobar2000 interface in Android, as of the last time, shouldn't be that difficult to get something like File Explorer "kind-of" app, except for the fact that I think foobar2000 would bring all the goodies like gapless playback and better handling of tags, artwork and formats it can play.

Cheers.

What is going on here?  Have you replied to yourself as if a third party, or has an intervening post been deleted??
It's your privilege to disagree, but that doesn't make you right and me wrong.

Hi. I think the first reply have been deleted by the user. He was saying something on the lines of if someone does it, that the spectrum effects and analyzers (video effects) also got ported to the app - and I said this would be too much to ask.
