Set the default playlist file extension from .fpl to .m3u8?

It seems the "default"  playlist extension for Foobar is .fpl. If I drag a playlist from the playlist switcher to a File Explorer window, a .fpl file is created to store it in.

Also when right click a playlist then Save plalyist as, a .fpl file is the default file extension.

I really like the ability to drag and drop a playlist to File Explorer but the fact that its saved as .fpl file, which is not a a ascii file format, really ruins it. I have taken a look at the settings and have not found anything related to this.
I also looked for a command line tool that can convert it to a .m3u8 but I have not found any.

Has anyone found a way around this? Maybe V2 has a solution for this?

I am on Foobar version V1.6.14.

Thanks for any help.

Yes the default extension is *.fpl, but you can save the current playlist elsewhere as a *.m3u8 just by CTRL-S and then at the bottom change "save as type" from .fpl to .m3u8.  Both v1 and v2 versions of Foobar can do this, no need for conversion tools etc.

That's not a solution for drag&drop though, which would be good.
It's your privilege to disagree, but that doesn't make you right and me wrong.

Default is FPL for performance reasons. Especially with large media libraries and playlists. Any form of text based format is slow when it comes to that.

Mudlord,

Could you elaborate on that a bit, regarding the performance hit? I'm guessing what you are referring to is the time it takes foobar to load a playlist. Or, could it be the time it takes to read the playlist and access the next track? Or something else. I don't have a lot of experience with foobar, except for simply playing playlisted material. But, understanding performance issues such as you mention is interesting to me. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
