ASX files can't be played on Foobar2000

Hello, I'm using foobar2000 v1.23 ans having a problem.

I can't open ASX files on Foobar. It has been a problem for me for more than 6 months.

I really love Foobar so I searched for some information but couln't find any suitable solution.

Could anyone tell me what should I do to play ASX files on Foobar?

Because in the main homepage it says foobar can play asx files and there is no component for making asx files playable on foobar....

Thanks.

.asx files work fine for me. perhaps it's just a problem with a specific station? do you get any errors in the console? (view menu)

An error message keeps poping up like this.

Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format):
"C:\Users\???\Documents\??\??\?? ??\02_Burning_Halloween_Town.asx"

lol so sad...

asx files are just plain text containing details of online servers to stream radio from.

not sure yours are judging by the fact they seem to be a folder structure with a tracknumber/title filename?

try a proper .asx file like this: http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r6.asx <<i'm not sure if this works outside the UK.

Oh, it works fine!

But I was able to open my .asx files through windows media player... and why i cannot through foobar?

What do I have to do in order to make them played on foobar as well?

An ASX file (Advanced Stream Redirector) is a special type of file which works closely with Windows Media ASF files.

• The ASF file is the actual media file, containing video, audio, etc.
• The ASX file is a metafile — a file which contains data about another file. In this case it is a simple text file containing a reference to an ASF file.

The purpose of an ASX file is to start the ASF file streaming.
(1) How large is your supposed ASX file?
(2) Does changing the extension it to ASF, or perhaps WMA, enable you to play it?
