can any one tell which one is best?
nowadays mp4 (AAC) comes with nero5510.

Hi, maybe you would also like to take a look at the two AAC boards on this forum, the threads there should answer most of the questions a newcomer might have. Another good source of information is http://www.audiocoding.com, especially the Wiki section and the forum.

To answer your question: AAC/MP4 is better than MP3 at all bitrates, meaning that it can deliver the same sound quality as LAME or Fraunhofer MP3 with a lower bitrate because of its higher efficiency. The differences between these two formats are explained very well in a PDF file from Karlheinz Brandenburg (one of the main developers at FhG for both formats) called "MP3 and AAC explained". You can find a link to this document in the Wiki mentioned above under "Simple technical info for novices".
