I use uBlock and I'm experiencing slow performance when viewing YouTube (using Firefox). So I went back to the old practice: downloading video files via IDM, which has a proprietary add-on for FF.
Beware of people - they can be a source of disappointment

They just blocked me until I turn off my ad blockers. Before that they were throttling the buffering.  Private browsing, with blockers enabled in Firefox works just fine though.

I've been using adblock for a long time but recently videos won't play if adblock is used.
