I don't know how to actually solve the problem, but a workaround is to name your WAV files using only ASCII characters, and once you encode them to MP3, add ID3 tags using the correct characters for the artist, album, and track titles. This will prevent any strange problems with hardware players that don't support non-English filenames, as well as displaying the correct titles in any player that supports ID3 tags.

Exactly. clean & tidy: artist_-_name_of_the_song.mp3

I hate thing like: 11. artist (feat. biloute) BBC \ 1998 [rippèd by team あげた - ¡ sí!remix ..] ww---.mp3  :))

Works for me in a command prompt using LAME 3.99.5 from Rarewares.org:
Code: [Select]
F:\Test>lame -h -V 2 Tëst.wav
LAME 3.99.5 64bits (http://lame.sf.net)
CPU features: SSE (ASM used), SSE2
Using polyphase lowpass filter, transition band: 18671 Hz - 19205 Hz
Encoding TÙst.wav to Tëst.mp3
Encoding as 44.1 kHz j-stereo MPEG-1 Layer III VBR(q=2)

The input file is named Tëst.wav, the output file is automatically named Tëst.mp3 by LAME.
But I hope you're not trying to convert an MP3 file to another MP3 file ? Because that's what your sentence is saying.

indeed a mp3 file to an other mp3 file but than put them all in the same bitrate and edit the mp3 tags
