In your sound control panel, check if your particular audio jack ( you are using your headphone or speakers) is assigned as headphones or line out.
Assign it as headphone if not. But it won't affect in case of active speakers.
You may not have that setting available based on your sound card.

I doubt if you are playing the CD directly in your drive. That is your drive sends the audio directly to your sound card instead of a software like EAC reading the CD data.
In older Windows versions there was a CD volume slider available, which handles this type of audio transfer.
Check if such a volume slider is available in your Windows volume control and try playing with it.
