High Audio Quality Parameter.

Hi,
I am using the foobar with lame3.99.5 to convert flac files to mp3. I convert to VBR. Could you please inform me one parameter for the best audio quality. I use now the following parameter :
--silent -b 320 -V 0  --noreplaygain - %d

Thanks,
George

You're using both CBR and VBR options at the same time, you need to just pick one of them, either -b 320 or -V 0, not both at the same time.

Either will give you audibly transparent output, with a significant safety margin.

I would suggest you try the ABX module in Foobar and compare different bitrate encodes of the same file, to find out where your personal limit of perception is. -V 2 will almost certainly be 100% transparent, and maybe -V 3 or -V 4 or even -V 5.

Thanks a lot for your direct reply.
Could you please suggest me a custom parameter for VBR option?

Thanks,
George

You don't need any custom parameters, just -V 0.

The LAME developers have spent years and done lots of careful listening tests to optimize performance.   It's unlikely that you can improve the sound by changing/tweaking settings.

(There are upcoming changes/improvements to the PSY model in version 3.100.)

If you're interested in absolutely best mp3 quality you may want to consider my lame3995n variant. It improves upon the rare issues standard Lame has,  and you can also have en extremely defensive way of using mp3 by using the new -Q option, say - Q0 or similar.
lame3995o -Q1.7 --lowpass 17
