What is a good MP3 encoder?

I've been a long time foobar user.  I've been ripping all my CDs to MP3 format using the lame encoder.  It's free & convenient... quality is decent I guess.  But if someone can recommend a better MP3 encoder/decoder, I don't mind paying for it.

There are no commercial MP3 encoders that are provably superior to LAME in the general case. Relax and enjoy.

If "perfect quality" matters to you, I'd suggest considering lossless like FLAC.
