Audigy 2 zs notebook optical ports questions

Dear people,

Have had this card (Audigy 2 zs notebook) for years now and am trying to use the optical ports as soon as I get the cable and adapters.

The Question is: Are the optical ports active all the time as soon as one plugs the cable into them? I mean, pretty much like the headphone jack, or the mic/line-in ports? Meaning like they don't need drivers to work, provided what's plugged in is correct, and goes to/from the right device?

I see the Creative Surround Mixer shows them. just as the mic and line-out.

Can optical in be used simultaneously with line/mic in, is there a WAY?

Can optical out be used simultaneously with line-out, meaning, the plug harness rear, left, and center are not cut-off with a cable using optical out?
