A problem with my ear since loud noise

Hey everyone, I know this isn't a doctors forum but as you are all in to music and everything I thought perhaps you might have some idea of my problem

Here is the situation that I wondered if people can give me advice on. I have a room where people come over to mix dance music, usually drum and bass, and when they are doing that I tend to just read a mag or something but facing the other way from the decks as that is where the chair is. Well last Friday (6 days from this post) a friend who was mixing, and who had large high quality pilot style headphones, decided to plonk them on my head for me to hear a track he was soon to mix. It made me jump a mile and it was so loud, I have no idea how he can cue mix that loudly. My problem is since that moment my right ear has been odd, sort of very slightly muffled and lower in volume than my left. It also feels like I have a thumb pressing in it or something, like a fullness and ache. When people talk there is almost like a lisp or hiss to words spoken. I did a home hearing test and my left ear (the unaffected ear) seems to hear things my right one doesn't. Sadly it is still as bad today as it was 6 days ago.

I have heard of gun shots and explosions causing permanent damage to ears, but can a 2 second noise from headphones do this too ? I don't remember any ringing noise afterwards, but then he was still mixing so their was music playing which could of drowned that out. The headphones were at half the max level on the mixer, I am unsure what Db this would make it.

I know the obvious thing is to see a doctor but I doubt there is much he can do if it is hearing loss.

Anyone know if this sort of thing is likely to clear up in a week or two or if it sounds permanent ? Or if this has happened to you ?

Thanks everyone !!

I once had hearing loss from firing a pistol without ear protection (how stupid is that?), but within a few days my hearing went back to normal.

This could return to normal. I have tinnitus in both my ears, however it used to be much worse and I recovered/experienced improvement sometimes over months.
I felt great relief by improving blood circulation. I took pentoxyfillin capsules which were great (1200mcg/day if I recall. Not something I'd advise in the long run). Also I'd advise you to up your omega-3 fatty acid intake (I'd use about 6g/day for now). Add some training for improved effect. I had great success with tabata training (no matter what excercise you do). Just keep it short and intense (tabata dands or bethaks for example). Your symptoms may get worse during training, but they will improve afterwards.

Oh and no matter what, go see a doctor. I won't hurt and you _will_ feel sorry afterward if you didn't.

Yes! PLEASE SEE A DOCTOR ASAP!  I try to avoid doctors as much as possible, but there are times when you need the advice, knowledge, and help of an expert.

The worst thing will be if the doctor says, "I could of helped you if you would have come sooner."

After several days, it's not an "emergency", but if you are in the U.S. you would go to an "Urgent Care" clinic, where you can be seen without waiting for an appointment.  (Or you may be able to make a short-notice urgent care appointment, so you don't end-up waiting too long if they are busy.)

well obviously, you've got an injury of some kind!

The Internet says, you can get a "broken" eardrum (ruptured or perferated) from loud noises.  The good news is that (if that's the injury) it should normally heal itself.  Still, go see a doctor...  You'll get  a diagnosis, and maybe you do need some treatment.

People who mix in clubs or etc. are usually doing so in an already very loud environment. When there's extremely loud music + talking/yelling then the person mixing has to set their headphone levels that much higher so they can mix properly. It hurts my ears just thinking about it lol. His case may not be that extreme, but his hearing loss could account for why the levels were so high.
