channle number and mixing

hi,

i saw in ISO/IEC 14496-3:2005(E), table 1.5 that in LC mode we dont have any independant coupling channles, and only one direct coupling channle. are there situations in which we have more?

also did anyone understand what to do in the case of downmix? i so something about downmix elements which should come from the encoder (?) what should i do in case i get 5.1 and only have stereo?
