EAC slow after first CD

Having a strange problem with EAC.  Seems to be related to a new DVD-ROM (Lite-On DH-16D2P) that I recently installed, but I only just realized what's going on so I'm not 100% sure that it started with the new drive or began later.

The problem is that when ripping multiple CDs one after the other, the first will rip at the expected high speed, but all subsequent CDs will rip very slowly.  This true in either Burst or Secure modes (I always use test & copy in either case).  The speed on subsequent CDs is roughly half that of the first CD.  Closing and restarting EAC will resolve the issue, but again only for one CD.  So basically anytime I need to rip more than one CD I have to remember to close and restart EAC between each disk.

The fact that closing and reopening EAC solves the issue makes me think it's an EAC problem and not necessarily a drive problem.  I'm using EAC 0.95b4.  The recent betas have seemed a bit rocky, so I've been waiting for a stable release before upgrading to a newer version.

I hope the problem can be solved, because the drive is otherwise excellent for EAC.  It doesn't cache audio (a first for Lite-On, I think) and supports accurate stream & C2, so you can get really high speed secure rips.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
