Quick Question Comparing Two Files...

I have 2 files of the same song, one encoded with LAME 3.92 at 128kbps in stereo mode, and one encoded with xing at 128kbps in joint stereo mode...I have a hard time telling which sounds better...any thoughts?

nothing to compare since ur giving lame the bad option, iam sure you know that joint-stereo is recommended mode in lame (especialy for bitrates that low).

Yeah, I definitely know that, but I did not encode the files, nor do I have access to the originals.

ok, abx them, if you cant tell the difference keep the lame version , xing is known by its bad joint stereo implementation.

I'm pretty sure that LAME will sound better than Xing here.  Even without the benefit of joint stereo, LAME beats Xing in so many other areas that it's difficult to count.  Of course there's always an exception though so no one can be certain without actually listening, but if you just want an opinion on which one is likely to be better, well there you go..
