MP3 in surround sound

They discuss mp3 pro's lack of commercial success, but make no comment about how mp3 continues to dominate as far as quantity of mp3's available, compatibility, and superior performance (thanks to the lame community) compared to codecs such as wma. Nonetheless, could be interesting for all those xvid people out there.

Two track mind for MP3 Surround

Well, I don't wanna be ironic, but there will never be a "commercial success" of MP3 as a "superior codec". It's simply the most common format, probobly due to relatively early introduction and specifics of social circles where File Exchange/CD Burning/Encoder Twicking originated. I guess you can call it "Lame Community". Here is a paradox that always amused me: in order to fully exploit the superiority of one method to compress audio over another you need to spend some serious money and effort. Why paradox? Because if you buy hi-end amp and speakers to hear the difference between two presets in Lame (and some people do) - why compress music at all? Get yourself hi-end cd player and enjoy the best!
I know what you're thinking: messing with audio is what folks here thoroughly enjoy, it's a way of life, a ham radio of our days, if you will.
But that's exactly why you will never see "commercial success" next to it.
And finally, three words: Not Propriatary Software.
