I want metre-type plugins to show signal pre-DSPs, not post; an option

Hi everyone,

I'm using foobar since several years, but i'm new here, so if I make anything wrong, please tell me and i'll correct it.
First, i'd like to say thank you to the dev team, as this is my favourite player, the only one with such a metrology, and the only one able to handle a +500GB music library without laging.

As a some people here i guess, i'm using integrated frequency analyzers, vu-meter and PPM. This was perfect, until i decided to use a DSP (31 bands EQ to compensate my room's issues), and see that the metrology was affected by it ! So it loses 6dB, increases some frequencies and decreases some others onto the frequency analyer. I need this as a tool, so i can't stant with it.

There is no point to make it this way, metrology is used to see what the sound really is, not what do to compensate your room or whatever effect you add, so it should be PRE-DSP by default (place before the DSP in audio chain) !
I don't think that anyone needs it post-DSP, but if anybody do so, then it should be an option.
Why not being able to see metrology in the DSP list, and move it up and down to control the position you want it to be in the chain ? Could be an even better solution.

So, maybe there is a good technical reason to make it this way (or i didn't find the option), but as i'm mainly using foobar for the metrology (to check my mixes and analyze music objectively and visually), this is really making me sad.

If i can help you any way, just tell me.
Cheers everyone.

Back when I wrote my foo_vis_meters component, instead of sampling the visualisation stream (or the new sample listener interface), I used DSPs as the probes for the signals that fed my meters. It's a bit ugly (have to define a set of them up-front), but it did the job nicely.

Of course, that requires you to have your own set of meters, but it might be a good thing if you want meters that measure exactly the things you want to measure.
Stay sane, exile.
