APE > FLAC using MA (WavPack) BAD

Bad things happen when converting APE to FLAC using Monkeys Audio as a frontend and the WavPack wedge as described in the instructions on the FLAC home page.

1.) Data loss (at least one file was severely truncated--down from 6MB to 110K)
2.) Multiple instances of flac_ren.exe (5 instances each using 196K)
3.) All files end in .wv extension when they should end in .flac

Windows XP
MAC 3.97
FLAC 1.10
setting: --best --verify

Hmm, maybe I should just retire that hack, now that there are several good GUIs for FLAC...

I would...

There's a better solution...
Speek has created (but not yet released) a front end that handles APE->FLAC migrations, including deletion of the APE file (bypassing stdin). Based on about 70 files I have converted with that front end, it seems the best solution thusfar.

Even if there weren't, losing data in lossless codecs is never good...
