DVD Playbacks on players

Hi I have a question do you know if some DVD players like computers can somehow be given updates on playback on certain formats such as adding divx ect to it?

AFAIK playback features as of formats are dependant on the hardware used (i.e. the chip the player is besed on). so no, you coulnd't add this feature by normal means.

think of it like wanting to play music with a server based system: you first would have to install the needed hardware (i.e. soundcard).

however, if the player already is able to play some sort of MPEG-4 standard then you could enhance this via firmware updates.


edit: wait, are you talking about hardware players or software players?! the above holds true for the first mentioned.

If you count original Xbox as a dvd player, then yes. It just requires a mod chip and xbmc software.
