Windows-wide EQ possible?

ok, so i've been playing around with some winamp EQ plugins, but, the reason i need EQ is to even out the frequency response in my *speakers*--SO, i would want the same EQ windows wide, so i can compare a mix in cubase to a mix in winamp, for instance--is there any program which will act as an audio device, let me point audio at it, do some good EQ, and then pass the data to the sound card's real out?

(i know that some sound cards have hardware EQ--but my MiaMIDI appears not to... :-(  )

I've looked for this for a while and the only thing I ever found was RTEQ, but I never was able to get it to work correctly.

I think this is what you want. It should work as you described.

guys--thanks for the great links, i am now looking at the following pieces of software:

  Graphic Equalizer Pro
  RTEQ
  Graphic Equalizer Studio

Strangely, when i try to install Parametric Equalizer Pro, it starts installing RTEQ (??)

some of these progs appear to have the functionality i need--but ALL of them complain that there is 'no driver installed' for my sound card--because i am running all the MiaMIDI ports in purewave mode.

this is why i was thinking the program would have to emulate a hardware device itself, and then output to the miamidi out--you see what i mean?

these programs undoubtedly utilize the facilities built into Windows for handling sound. Purewave is Echo's efforts to avoid Windows sound processing, therefore it is unlikly to work with any other audio not plugged into the program utiliting the purewave drivers.

some more intense googling pointed me back to HA ( :-) ):

this method looks like it will work--although i hope it doesn't add too much latency! :-(

at worst, i will have bad eq when i need low latency, and high latency when i need good eq for a final mix.

I don't know if you have the option to use DirectX output. If this is the case you could be really interested in Izotope Ozone.

I probably said something really wrong.

It seems that Izotope Ozone DX can be used only as a DX Plug-In by applications aware of those kind of plug-ins. Adobe Audition for example, can, but I didn't find a way to control it from within Foobar2000 when using Directsound output.

Anyone with more experience can confirm/comment?

Ozone, Waves and the like are DirectX plugins. Not DirectSound or DirectShow plugins. That makes all the difference

Despite that you can still use DirectX plugins from within Foobar2000 or Winamp.
For Foobar: install a winamp plugin adapter, install AdaptX 3.5 for winamp (it's free).
Now you can use any DirectX plugins from Foobar. Same for Winamp.

I noticed that they somehow reworked the procedure of loading of the winamp plugins to Foobar. If this version doesn't work for you, try older versions from that finnish page ;-)

Follow up:

AdaptX perfectly works with WinAmp (5.111)

The Foobar2000/WinAmp bridge to which you linked didn't worked for me.
The latest version, [a href="http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/plugins/redir.php?id=415]foo_dsp_Foobar2WinampPlugin20041005.zip[/url], worked instead.

I'm now able to use iZope Ozone from within WinAmp and Foobar 0.8.3 (and am very happy of that, thanks Leo 69!)

I'm wondering if anybody developed  (or is thinking of) a direct foobar2000/DirectX DSP plugin bridge, without the need to go the WinAmp route. Will there be advanatges? Reduced delay, maybe?

Thanks!
