@Liisachan : I agree, the text isn't perfect.  I just put it there as a placeholder text, because I felt some text was needed.  I like your idea with apposing adjectives, but changing / adding these would require a full (re-)branding and I don't know if David Bryant wants one or not..  If he does, though, I'd be more than happy to contribute, as would (I'm sure) other members.

I think David Bryant is a nice and modest person, and maybe doesn't like too much advertisement. Anyway, a more aggressive slogan would be...
"Redefine the Transparency: WavPack Won't Cheat Your Ears"
half-joking...meaning, unlike mp3 vorbis etc, the lossy algo is not psychoacoustic.

EDIT: quote=Shade[ST] doesn't work because of ] in the nick...

Two more ideas:

Although I figure we should focus on what they should say rather than how they look.  It can become a game of words more than graphics...

First off, it's really difficult to offend me. We're pretty laid-back here in California...

I really like some of the button ideas here, and I'm certainly not married to the existing WavPack logo. If someone would like to link to the WavPack site with some other design, then I think that's fine. I would say that as long as it spelled out "wavpack" somewhere, nobody would be confused.

I'm not ready to go for a whole new website and logo just yet, especially because I have so much on my plate right now. It hasn't been that long since we graduated from this: www.wavpack.com/397, and I really appreciate the work that Ariakis and Roberto did (and it's simple enough that even I can maintain it). But I would like to host a few of these button images for people to use if they like.

BTW, the last request I got for link swapping was from a site dedicated to air compressors!

Thanks to everyone for your efforts and support!

Woo Hoo!  David likes it and is on board!

@bryant: I am excited that you like the idea.  We owe a lot to you and just wanna spread the joy.  Do we just submit them to you for approval, hosting on your site.  Or do we just brew our own as long as they link to your site and say WavPack on them?

Version 2:

J/K, my best mate at work is 'samwell', the guy who designed the LAME logo.

I thought you may be a designer also, your suggested logo is very professional.

Here's what I have.

I will certainly wait until a button is on wavpack.com before I implement it.

Version 2:
Thank you for trying that, much appreciated.  I'm not sure it looks as good as I thought it might (sorry!).  I can't decide which one I prefer. Edit:  Actually, to stick my untrained oar in again, maybe with a very light blue shadow (lighter than the current one) instead of grey?[a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=377182"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

The light blue shadow seems to work the best:   I didn't blur it this time, either.

@Muncher : try making the shadow an inner glow instead.  I think it being equal is important (it's not homogenous with two sides only.)

or you can try changing the lighting parameters to 90degrees.

@Synthetic Soul : I hadn't installed silkscreen when I made those buttons, so I did with what I had.  However, I'm also not quite satisfied with the result I got from my logo.  I'll try updating somewhat later.  I think you scored a good point with the black-and-white comment, though.

Oh, I know.  I look forward to seeing your next effort.  Muncher's is looking very tidy now, so it will have to be good to beat it (whether it has to be beaten, or whether we will have a variety of buttons is yet to be seen, I guess).  I quite like the use of simply ".wv" to represent WavPack (see next bit).

Bear in mind that the logo can have various incantations, as per the LAME logo.  I wouldn't like to see you lose your current suggestion, but perhaps you could also develop a simple version that could be used on hardware, and maybe even the button?

Feel free to slap my non-designer suggestions into touch.  I guess I'm just used to working with them and bouncing ideas around (aka sticking my oar in).

Would I be right in assuming that you are not a designer?

I like all of the 3 versions  Personally I like the 1st version, and ver.3 better than ver.2.

Quoting myself is a sure sign of either egomania or schizophrenia.  Anyway, I just wanted to point out (as I'm sure you're all dying to know) I also liked the use of ".wv" on Shade[ST]'s banner (but never got around to saying):

Personally I like the 1st version, and ver.3 better than ver.2.[/quote]I totally agree.  The embossed, or "dropped" effect for the right panel is still not as effective as I had imagined though.  I thought it would look really cool for the left panel to be slight outset, and the right to be slightly inset, but I'm not sure it's as cool as I thought it would be.  That aside, it's a very professional button, which I would be very happy to have on my site (although I actually intend to go for something around 32px high, if I get the choice, to fit along the foobar banner nicely.).  Kudos to MuncherOfSpleens.  It's also nice that he has been gracious enough to take onboard the suggestions of an idiot like me.

I'm on a horse.

Bump and question – what do we need to use any of these?  Do we just need authors’ permission here or do they need to be released under some sort of Creative Commons License to be used?  I would like to use one or two of these (mine are not as good).

Also – does anyone else want to create any and submit them here?
