Newbie - VorbisGain

Hi there,
I am new to the whole compressed digital music scene and have recently encoded my 50 or so CD's into OGG format with a quality setting of 3. Personally I can't tell the difference between that and my CD's with the equipment I am using. (Soundblaster live! DE 5.1 and Inspire 5300 speakers)

Anyway, my question is about VorbisGain. When you apply it to a file does it modify the file in any way apart from adding the tags? And also, when you activate VorbisGain when listening to a file in Winamp, does it affect the quality of playback at all? To me it sounds like it is a little muffled. But then again that might just be because of the volume differences.

Thanks for any opinions

VorbisGain adds only these 4 tags to your ogg files:

REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK
REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN
REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_PEAK
REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN

Quality shouldn't be affected, only playback volume. You can always disable
Replay Gain in the Winamp Vorbis decoder if you want to revert to "normal"
volumes, so having the tags there really only affects your hard disk usage.
You can easily remove them with the "-c" switch of VorbisGain, or with a tag
editor like WinVorbis.

When listening to two files, the more silent one is usually perceived as 'more muffled', although they are exactly identical in terms of quality. VorbisGain does not touch the actual sound data.
