I'd like to buy a new computer (my Pentium 233 MMX is too old!!).
Can anyone suggest me a good configuration? (medium quality components)
I already have the following hardware:
CD burner, monitor, HDD (on the new PC I'll add a second one).
I prefer AMD over Intel. Thank's.

Sorry for my bad English.

Depends what you are going do?
Audio Encoding Mostly?
Games?
Video?
General use?

Do you want to bulid it or but it whole?

For a good processor for a decent price I would go with the Duron, about a gig.

Actually I use my computer mainly to encode audio files.
I don't think I will use it to play games, but probably to encode video files in the future. I'd like to have a secondary HDD to store my MP3 collection, and a graphic board with TV aout to watch DVDs on TV.
I would like to build it on my own, so I can set it up as I like.

Best bet is to build it yourself, we have weekly PC Fairs where traders go and sell at vastly reduced prices, I've built many pc's for different people and the best bit is saving money and building a pc that is to individual requirements.
Mind you having the 'know how' can lead to be an expensive hobby-my pc is never complete

I would personaly go with Duron ~1GHz
256Megs or RAM, 512 if you are going do do heave editing, encoding, or video.
ATI All-In-Wonder Pro, or like card.  Usualy not the most powerful graphics wise, but they do f-ing everything.
DDR Ram
Big-Ass hard drive
DVD and CD-RW (no Combos, 2 CD drives is good).
and so on....

Code: [Select]
Motherboard   : ECS K7S5A

Processor     : Athlon XP 1800+

Memory        : 512MB DDR SDRAM

Graphics card : Hercules 3D Prophet 8500LE

Sound card    : VideoLogic SonicFury

CPU cooler    : Alpha PAL8045T (or Thermalright AX-7) with Enermax UC-8FAB

Power supply  : Enermax 353W EG365AX FMA
This package should prove to be both quite affordable and at the same time powerful...

Just don't forget the casing...

He already said he had one...

If not, then I would definitly recommend either Seagate Barracuda or Maxtor with "fluid mechanics" instead of "ball bearing"...
