atrac3 encoder

i bought a sony mp3/atrac3/cd player and te software doesn't work on my computer
is there a way to encode atrac3 (not atrac3plus) files without using sonicstage?

Theres a directshow codec out there, but its pretty bad.  On the highest setting LAME preset 128 destroys it.
