Preferences/Playback/Output settings when changing output device

I am regularily switching between different output devices such as headphone or Sonos loudspeaker (connected via foo_out_upnp). In my case, the settings in preferences/playback/output seem not to be persisted for the specific output devices.
One example is that with Sonos the option 'Enable smooth seeking, pause and volume changes' automatically gets disabled (as probably not supported - unfortunately). When switching back to headphone, I have to manually check this option again as the output seetings for the headphone device seem not to be persisted.
Any idea on how to store the settings for specific devices?
